An Introduction to HTML

Hypertext Markup Language ( HTML) is the common markup language used to create documents for display in the Web browser. It is supported by technology such as CSS (CSS) or the scripting language like JavaScript.

Browsers for the web take HTML-based documents either from the Web server or locally stored storage, and convert them into web pages with multimedia. HTML defines the structure of the website page in terms of semantics and was originally used to provide clues to the design and appearance of the page.

HTML element are the basic building blocks that make up HTML page. By using HTML elements, images and other items like Interactive forms can be integrated in the page. HTML allows you to build document structures by indicating the structural meanings for text like paragraphs, headings and list, links, quotes, and many more. HTML elements are defined through tags which are written using brackets that are used to define angles. Tags like < img /> as well as < input /> immediately insert information into the page. Other tags, such as < p> surrounding and provide information on text in the document and can contain other tags in sub-elements. Browsers do not display HTML tags. Instead, they rather use them to understand the content of the webpage.

HTML allows embedding programs written in the scripting languages like JavaScript which alters the appearance and functionality of websites. The inclusion of CSS is what defines the style and style of content. CSS is the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) was the former maintainer of HTML and maintender of the CSS standard, has pushed using CSS over the more explicit presentational HTML since 1997.
